Danish grower, Morten Hansen from Slagelse on Zeeland has high hopes for the 20ha crop of DK Expansion he has entered in this year’s ADAS Oilseed YEN competition; the best crop he has ever grown.
The whole field, including headlands, produced a seed yield of 5.6t/ha, with yield mapping underlining particularly impressive consistency across the crop.
Drilled with seedbed fertiliser after winter wheat in mid-August, the crop did this with a nitrogen input of less than 200kg/ha,” pointed out DEKALB specialist, Soren Lykkegaard Hansen who is overseeing the YEN entry.
“It developed rapidly with the large biomass we always want going into the Danish winter and looked like a fantastic crop right through to harvest. After correcting for its 46.2% oil at 9% moisture, it gave us a gross output of 6.04t/ha.
“We are especially excited about this performance after Bo Jensen on Funen won the OSR productivity crown in last year’s competition – also with a crop of DK Expansion.”
