At the Bayer/FACE awards ceremony held at The Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in central London, representatives from across the agriculture and education spectrum celebrated the presentation of awards to farmers and countryside organisations demonstrating the very best in farming and countryside education.
These Awards, organised by Bayer CropScience and FACE (Farming and Countryside Education), showcase those farmers who are making a real difference to the lives of young people through their work in providing them access to the farm environment, and educating them about the industry.
“We are delighted to work with FACE to celebrate the very best in farming education," said Andrew Orme, managing director of Bayer CropScience. "We believe that as key suppliers to the farming industry, we should play a role in promoting the work that farmers are doing in their communities. These awards are just one of the initiatives that Bayer CropScience is working on with its partners to help the sustainable development of UK farming.”
Janet Hickinbottom, Head of Education at FACE, said: “We are growing up in an increasingly urbanised world and FACE feel that we need to reinforce the connection between communities and their local farms. Children, young people and their families have become disassociated with where their food comes from and do not know what constitutes a healthy diet. By reintroducing children to the countryside we can show them the opportunities rural sites hold for both leisure and employment.”
