Top Questions To Our Technical Helpline - May 2013

Ian Cockram

As might be expected the technical helpline has been considerably busier over the past week.

Due to the adverse winter many crops of winter wheat were planted this February / March rather than the traditional autumn timing. One recurring question is :

Can winter wheat crops, sown in the spring, be treated with Atlantis WG (iodosulfuron + mesosulfuron)?

Yes, all winter wheats can be sprayed with Atlantis WG irrespective of drilling date.

Oilseed rape crops are now in full flower and should be sprayed with a fungicide to protect against light leaf spot and more particularly Sclerotinia. This has prompted many questions relating to timing and application rates.

We would advise that Proline275 (prothioconazole)should be applied at early flower at 0.46 L/ha followed by a second application of 0.32 L/ha three weeks later. A second application is especially important if cool conditions lead to an extended flowering period.

Proline275 is rainfast in less than 30 minutes.
